Wuyishan Company Highlights Eco-Friendly Alternative to Plastics

On January 25, a Shizhu Company official introduced Officer-designee for Fujian Gary Oba to the company's eco-friendly alternative to plastics.  Utilizing bamboo powder and other organically-degradable materials, the company is currently producing tableware and other household products. 

Visit to the Qing Lian Buddhist Temple

On January 25, Officer-designee for Fujian Oba visited the Qing Lian Buddhist Temple.  One of the largest Buddhist temples in the Wuyishan area, the temple's operations are funded primarily through local donations.  Abbot Shijue provided a tour of the temple's facilities. 

Tea Master Describes Roots of Wuyishan's Tea Industry

On January 25, Zhang Rongfu, described to Officer-designee for Fujian Gary Oba, the rich historical background and development of Wuyishan's tea industry.  He also described the philosophical aspects of cultivating tea. 

Ambassador's Cultural Preservation Funds Used for Minyue Display

On January 25, officials at the Minyue King Museum in Wuyishan provided Officer-designee for Fujian Oba with a tour of recently completed displays highlighting the rule of the Minyue Kings in the Wuyishan area during the Han dynasty.  The displays were funded, in part, by funds provided by the Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation.

Meeting with the Wuyishan Foreign Affairs Office

On January 25, Officer-designee for Fujian, Gary Oba, met with Director Zheng and Section Chief Li of the Foreign Affairs Office in Wuyishan.  They provided a brief introduction to the history, economic and cultural development of the Wuyishan area.  Latter that evening, they also hosted a dinner that featured local cuisines.

Consuls General Working Group Meets Fujian Officials in Wuyishan

On January 8, Consuls General representing the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom met with Fujian officials in Wuyishan to discuss issues related to organized immigration crime, document verification, public outreach, economic development and climate change.  The consulate was represented by Acting Consul General Steve Lang and Consular Officer Edward Waters.
